Klaus Staeck
Divers Placards, installation view VAN HORN, Düsseldorf, 2020
Klaus Staeck, *1938, lives and works in Heidelberg and Berlin
Klaus Staeck is regarded as the most important political graphic artist and poster artist of the Federal Republic of Germany, who with his art has repeatedly pointedly and provocatively highlighted the abuses in politics and denounced society since the end of the sixties. His verbal and visual language is catchy, clear and complex at the same time. He belongs to that generation of German intellectuals, whose conscious life coincides with the history of the Federal Republic. He has not only accompanied this history artistically and commented it politically, but has become part of it in a creative way. The pictorial inventions and associated satirical
Slogans have lost nothing of their topicality over the years. They show emphatically that many of the political, social and cultural problems remained unresolved, although they were for decades on the political
Agenda. Quite a few of them have now become even more threatening: climate change, affordable rents, xenophobia, violence and education are only the most important issues.
