Giancarlo Palanti
Tridente armchair / P9 armchair, 1948
This model was manufactured in diverse types of wood (jacaranda, cabreuva, plywood) and for longtime has been attributed to Lina due to the fact that she was the director of the magazine and the author of the specific article “Moveis Novos” through which Lina wanted to present the work of the Estúdio Palma. The rightful attribution of this model to Giancarlo Palanti is a result of the keen research conducted by Anna Carboncini (IB Archive) for Nilufar gallery across the Palanti Archive (University of San Paolo, Brazil).
The Tridente, as lately renamed by Brazilian researcher Sergio Campos, is an iteration of the Estúdio Palma much explored boomerang formal element. In the late 1950s the other partners of Oficina Paubra (Lina’s joinery company) continued the production of the P9 armchair (only the plywood version) and the C12 chair. That’s why these chairs are less rare than other pieces.
