How to Defund the Police If You Live in New York

artwork: Merlin Carpenter – POLICE, 2013 (oil on linen).

The paintings can be hung any way up.

The NYPD Fiscal Year begins on July 1st. Here’s what you can do to ensure that funding from the city is diverted away from the New York Police Department.

Email or Call Melanie Hartzog

She’s the Director of Office and Management and Budget for the Mayor.

Phone: (212) 788-5900

Here’s what you can say:

Hi my name is [NAME] and I am a resident of [BOROUGH]. I am asking to call an emergency council meeting and deny the mayor’s proposed budget. I would like to redirect money away from NYPD into these social service programs. [LIST]. It is crucial that this meeting is called because police are currently being paid overtime for current protests.

Email or Call Your Own Councilmember
