Sara Rahbar at Carbon 12
Carbon 12 presents a series of carefully selected works by the Tehran born-New York based artist Sara Rahbar (b. 1976), from the 2010-2011 War series, along with other recent sculptural works and a work from the Flag series.The collected vintage materials, assembled to create Rahbar’s contemporary textiles and sculptures, have a strong connection with the 19th and early 20th-century history of the United Sates and what the Island represents as a historical landmark. These assemblages and sculptures are representations of power structures that dominated our nations and societies worldwide, and an homage to the common man, the blue-collared workers, the anonymous men and women who used their bodies to build/defend/maintain our cities and nations. Rahbar’s formal approach reflects human suffering, beautifies the tensions and lament which is so universal to our world since the first industrial revolution.
